Community
Kerala Introduces Dedicated Housing Support Under
the Mazhavillu Scheme
Access to
safe housing is one of the most fundamental human needs. Recognizing the
housing challenges faced by transgender individuals, the Government of Kerala
has strengthened its social welfare initiatives through the Mazhavillu
Housing Scheme, a dedicated program designed to help eligible transgender
persons own a secure home.
The
scheme provides financial assistance for purchasing land, constructing a house,
or completing housing projects, making it one of the state's most inclusive
housing initiatives.
What is the Mazhavillu Housing Scheme?
The
Mazhavillu Housing Scheme is implemented by the Department of Social Justice,
Government of Kerala. It aims to improve housing security for transgender
individuals who often face social exclusion, financial hardship, and limited
access to stable accommodation.
